It is located in the upper reaches of the Chubetu River, a tributary of the Ishikari River, and is about 8 kilometers long. It is part of Daisetsuzan National Park, and features large rock walls and columnar joints of welded tuff. On the northern wall, there is the Hagoromo Falls, the largest waterfall in Hokkaido, with a drop of 270 meters. Further upstream is Shikishima Falls.
