Also known as 'Higokan'. An evergreen shrub of the legume family native to Mexico. It is grown in a pot for decorative purposes. It resembles the silk tree, but is smaller overall. The flowers are hemispherical with conspicuous stamens and a brilliant scarlet color. In the tropics, it is used as a garden tree, reaching 2-3m in height. It blooms from June to July. ヒゴウカンとも。メキシコ原産のマメ科の常緑小低木。観賞用に鉢植栽培される。ネムノキに似ているが,全体に小柄。花は半球形状でおしべが目立ち,輝くような緋色。熱帯では庭木にされ,2〜3mに達する。開花期は6〜7月。10℃内外の低温室で越冬させ,実生(みしょう)または挿木でふやす。
