A former town in Mitoyo County, western Kagawa Prefecture. Located in the upper reaches of the Takase River, the town produces rice and tobacco using reservoir irrigation, as well as mandarin oranges, persimmons, and other fruits. The Yosan Line runs through the town. Tokami Park is a famous cherry blossom viewing spot. In January 2006, the town merged with the towns of Yamamoto, Mino, Toyonaka, Takuma, Nio, and Zaita in Mitoyo County to become a city. Area: 56.36 km2 . Population: 16,787 (2003). 香川県西部,三豊郡の旧町。高瀬川上流域を占め,溜池灌漑(ためいけかんがい)による米,タバコのほか,ミカン,カキなどの果樹も産する。予讃線が通じる。爺神(とかみ)公園は桜の名所。2006年1月,三豊郡山本町,三野町,豊中町,詫間町,仁尾町,財田町と合併し市制,三豊市となる。56.36km2。1万6787人(2003)。
