Around 360, he founded the monastery of Ligugé, said to be the first monastery in Gaul, near Poitiers. In 372, he became Bishop of Tours and established the monastery of Marmoutier, where he trained priests and preached, and his influence spread to northeastern Gaul. From the middle of the 5th century, his fame grew as the veneration of his relics spread, and in 507, Clovis' victory over the Visigoths was said to have been under his spiritual guidance, and he became the patron saint of the Frankish Kingdom. …
