A village in Shimoina County, southwest of Nagano Prefecture. Population 6,129 (1995). Located in the Achi River basin, a tributary of the Tenryu River. In ancient times, Achi Station was established here as a key location for crossing Misaka on the Tosando road, and in the Edo period, the area flourished with the post town of Komaba at its center. National Routes 153 and 256 still run through the area, and it is a key transportation hub on the Chuo Expressway, with the Sonohara Interchange opened in 1992. It occupies the southern end of the Kiso Mountains, with Mount Ena (2,191m) towering over its western edge. Agriculture and forestry were carried out mainly around rice and sericulture, but in recent years production of livestock, vegetables, fruit, etc. has been increasing. 長野県南西部,下伊那郡の村。人口6129(1995)。天竜川の支流阿智川流域に位置する。古代には東山道の神坂(みさか)越えの要地として阿智駅が置かれ,江戸時代には宿場町駒場を中心に栄えた地である。現在も国道153号,256号線が通じ,中央自動車道の走る交通の要地で,園原(そのはら)インターチェンジは1992年に開設。木曾山脈南端を占め,西端に恵那山(2191m)がそびえる。米作と養蚕を中心に農林業が営まれていたが,近年畜産,野菜,果実などの生産が伸びている。
