...Even when fasting, the gallbladder contracts rhythmically, causing small amounts of gallbladder bile to flow into the duodenum. Generally, when food enters the duodenum, the amino acids and fatty acids contained in the food stimulate the duodenal and jejunal mucosa, which releases a gastrointestinal hormone called cholecystokinin, which acts directly on the gallbladder wall, causing strong gallbladder contractions and releasing a large amount of bile into the duodenum. The amount of hepatic bile produced in the liver and excreted into the bile duct each day is approximately 1500 ml in adults.

Functionally, the gallbladder stores about half of the bile produced by the liver every day and excreted as hepatic bile, and regulates its release. However, many animals do not have a gallbladder, and even in humans, cholecystectomy is actively performed if gallstones are present, so the gallbladder is not an essential organ for the body.
