…It is valuable as the most reliable and rare source of information on the customs of the 11th century, and as the only surviving example of a work of this kind, which was an important category of art at the time. It is said to have been hung in the nave of Bayeux Cathedral, where William's half-brother Odon (1032-97) was bishop, for nine days from the feast of the relics after the dedication in 1077.
