Hamgyong-do (English spelling)

Japanese: 咸鏡道 - かんきょうどう（英語表記）Hamgyŏng‐do

The northeastern region of the Korean Peninsula. It is one of the eight provinces of Korea and is also called the Kanbuk region. It is currently part of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and is divided into two directly controlled cities and three provinces, as described below.

The Hamgyong Mountains, which reach an elevation of over 2,000 meters, run through the center of the road from northeast to southwest, and the road is covered in mountains throughout. The southeastern slope of the Hamgyong Mountains is covered with mountainous areas with cliffs several hundred meters high in places, and reaches all the way to the coast of the Sea of Japan, with almost no large flat areas to be seen. The coastline is relatively monotonous, but there are many good natural harbors, such as Rajin and Chongjin.

　本道の中央を北東から南西方向へ標高2000m以上の咸鏡山脈が走り，本道のほぼ全域を山地が覆っている。咸鏡山脈の南東斜面はところどころに数百mの断層崖を発達させた山地が日本海沿岸まで迫り，広い平地がほとんどみられない。海岸線は比較的単調だが，羅津，清津など天然の良港がかなりみられる。
