Reticuloendothelial system

…Macrophages are the most active cells in the phagocytic process, and most of them are derived from monocytes in the blood, so macrophages and monocytes together are called the mononuclear phagocytic system. Macrophages derived from sources other than blood belong to the so-called reticuloendothelial system, which includes histiocytes in tissues, Kupffer stellate cells in the liver, alveolar macrophages in the lungs, macrophages in lymph nodes and the spleen, and macrophages derived from the pleural and peritoneal epithelium.
[Types of inflammation]
Inflammation can be classified according to its duration into acute inflammation, which disappears within about a month, and chronic inflammation, which lasts for several months to several years, and inflammation in between is called subacute inflammation.

…なかでもマクロファージは最も活発に貪食作用を示す細胞で，その大部分は血液中の単球に由来することから，マクロファージと単球とを合わせて単核細胞貪食系mononuclear phagocytic systemと呼ばれている。血液以外から由来するマクロファージは，組織に存在する組織球，肝臓のクッパー星細胞，肺の肺胞マクロファージ，リンパ節や脾臓にあるマクロファージおよび胸膜や腹膜上皮由来のマクロファージなど，いわゆる細網内皮系reticuloendothelial systemといわれているものに属する細胞である。

　炎症は，その持続期間によって分類すると，ほぼ1ヵ月以内に消える急性炎症acute inflammation，数ヵ月から数年にわたる慢性炎症chronic inflammationに分けられ，その中間の炎症は亜急性炎症subacute inflammationという。…
