1723‐1803 (Kyoho 8‐Kyowa 3) A haiku poet of the mid-Edo period. His surname was Katsumi and given name Mitsushige. His other pen names included Toza, Sanshibo, Fuji and Nanasugido. He was from the mountains of Kaga Province. He first learned haiku from his fellow townsman Toyo, and later from Ise's Otsuyu and his disciple Kiin. After a long period of travelling around the country, he settled in Osaka in 1771 (Meiwa 8) and worked to revive the style of Sho, becoming a leading figure in Tenmei haiku. His edited works include Jogenshu and Matsukazarishu, and his haiku collections include Niryuan Hakkushu. "The nanten turns a pale red as the snow this morning" (Tsumori-bune).
