There are about 13 species in six genera distributed in the waters off Japan, including the Moridae (Physiculus japonicus ), the Iso-iname ( Lotella phycis ), and the Itohikidara (Laemonema longipes) , all of which are deep-sea fish. Their bodies are long and elongated, similar to those of cod, and some have barbels on their lower jaws and some do not. …
