A collection of short stories by Uchida Hyakken. Published by Tomondo Shoten in 1922 (Taisho 11). Contains 18 stories, including the title story "Meido" (1917). All stories are written in a dream style, and show the influence of Natsume Soseki's "Ten Nights of Dreams." Permeated with the motif of "writing the mystery of the heart with a frightening heart," many of the stories are about nightmares. Some of the stories involve empathy with one's relatives ("Meido" and "Michizure"), the fear of transforming into a beast ("Kudan"), the mystery of the existence of women, and a sense of guilt towards women ("Hanabi" and "Tokage"). The title story "Meido" is a sad, Japanese-style depiction of an encounter with one's late father, who is in another world.
