A city in central eastern England. It is a unitary authority. The central part of the city is made up of Northamptonshire, the eastern part of Cambridgeshire, and the area south of the River Nean that was formerly part of Huntingdonshire. In 1974, it became part of Cambridgeshire in the municipal reorganization, and in 1998, it became a unitary authority. It is located about 50 km northwest of Cambridge, on the western edge of the lowlands called the Fen, and faces the River Nean. The town developed around St. Peter's Cathedral, whose construction began in 1118, and in the 14th century, it became the center of the wool industry, producing textiles and worsted wool. The vast marshland of the Fen was reclaimed by full-scale drainage works in the mid-17th century and became an agricultural area, and it developed as a market town for distributing agricultural products. After the railway was built in the mid-19th century, industry developed, and industries such as diesel engines, steam turbines, pumps, electrical appliances, canned fruit and vegetables, and sugar (beet sugar) are being produced. The city is on the railway line between London and Edinburgh, making it an ideal location for warehousing and distribution. Area: 343 ^km2 . Population: 159,700 (2005 estimate).

A city in southeastern Ontario, Canada. It is located about 110 km northeast of Toronto, on the banks of the Otonabee River. In 1821, A. Scott built a sawmill and flour mill that took advantage of a 15-meter waterfall. In 1825, about 2,000 Irish immigrants led by P. Robinson settled here. The city was named after the leader. It is a commercial and industrial center, with electrical machinery, boats, ship equipment, clocks, and food industries. Population: 68,371 (1991).
