The society of Andalusia, which began with the Muslim conquest, was structured in such a way that the political authorities were Arab-Berber Muslims who ruled over the indigenous Christian and Jewish inhabitants. However, the Muslim rule over the non-believers was in contrast to the Christian rule over the Muslims and Jews after the Reconquista in terms of tolerance.
