One of the leading British philosophers. Born on November 23rd. In 1940, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in philosophy, politics and economics at Oxford University. After serving in the military for a time, he served as a research fellow at Oxford University from 1948, and in 1968 became professor of philosophy at the university, succeeding Gilbert Ryle. Since the 1950s, he has been a leading figure in the ordinary language school in British philosophy, publishing cutting-edge and influential papers in various fields such as logic, philosophy of logic, philosophy of language, philosophy of mind, aesthetics, and ethics, as well as playing a leading role in Kant studies. He has also given lectures around the world and played an important role in universalizing the methods of contemporary British philosophy. For these achievements, he was knighted in 1977. His main work is The Groundwork of Logic (1952).
