Arlington National Cemetery
A national cemetery located in northeastern Virginia, across the Potomac River from Washington DC, the capital of the United States. Administratively, it belongs to Arlington County. It is the national burial ground of the United States and a place of patriotic worship. It is roughly semicircular in shape, covering a total area of ​​about 200 hectares, and its center is the home of George Washington Parke Custis, George Washington's adopted son, built in 1802. In 1864, it became a military cemetery, and since then, American war dead have been buried here. Famous people who have been buried here include General John J. Pershing, Admiral Richard E. Byrd, President William H. Taft, General Jonathan M. Wainwright, President John F. Kennedy, and Robert F. Kennedy. The best-known tomb is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, which is guarded by Marines 24 hours a day. The United States Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) is located to the north of the cemetery, and the Department of Defense building is located to the southeast.
