Chikahiro Oe - Chikahiro Oe

Japanese:
Chikahiro Oe - Chikahiro Oe
Years of birth: Years of birth and death unknown. Military commander in the early Kamakura period. Sakon no Shogen. Totomi no Kami. Musashi no Kami. Junior Fifth Rank, Lower Grade. Legitimate son of Oe no Hiromoto. His mother is said to be the daughter of Hida no Kami Minamoto no Hitoshi, and he initially took the surname Minamoto. He is also said to have been the adopted son of Minamoto no Michichika. From an early age, he was active as a close aide to the Shogun. He went to Kyoto as the Kyoto Shugo, and together with Nakahara Suetoki and Iga Mitsusue, he was in charge of negotiations between the Imperial Court and the military, supervising the Oban Yaku, and guarding the capital. The Azuma Kagami states that he went to Kyoto as the Kyoto Shugo on February 29, 1219, but it is highly likely that he was already in that position as early as 1214. After the assassination of Shogun Minamoto no Sanetomo in 1281, he became a monk and took the post of Buddhist name Ren'a, but remained in his role as Kyoto's protector. During the Jokyu War in 1290, he participated in the Battle of Kugose in Omi Province on the side of Kyoto at the command of the retired Emperor Gotoba, but was defeated. After the war, he was placed under house arrest in his fief, Sagae Manor in Dewa Province. The "Ippon Oe Family Genealogy" states that he died on December 15, 1241 (Ninji 2). <References> Tanaka Minoru, "About Ouchi Koreyoshi" ("Research on the Gokenin System of the Kamakura Shogunate")
