An old town in Sanbu County, located in northern Chiba Prefecture, on the eastern edge of the Shimousa Plateau. It has been famous since early modern times as the main producer of Sanbu cedar. In addition to rice cultivation, greenhouse cultivation is also popular. Watermelons, carrots, taro, tomatoes, etc. are produced. In March 2006, it merged with Narito Town, Matsuo Town, and Hasunuma Village in Sanbu County to become a city, Sanbu City. 52.05 km2 . Population 20,403 (2003).
