St. Petersburg Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra (English: Sankt-Peterburgskii akademicheskii simfonicheskii orkestr Sankt-Peterburgskoi filarmonii)
This is the orchestra with the longest history in Russia. Its predecessor was the court orchestra founded in 1882. After the revolution in 1921, it took on its current structure and was called the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra, but was renamed in 1991. The first conductor after the revolution was Emil' Al'bertovich Kuper (1877-1960), and although the orchestra has had several conductors since then, from 1938 EA Mravinsky served as music director and chief conductor, and has trained the orchestra into one of the world's leading orchestras.
