Kamado-gatadoki pottery

Japanese: 竈形土器 - かまどがたどき

A portable earthen cooking utensil, distinct from cooking facilities built into walls or floors. A set of fire-resistant Hajiki pottery hearth, kettle, steamer, and pot. Its origins lie in the Chinese and Korean rice cooking system, and it was introduced in the second half of the 5th century and has since been called the "Karakamado (Han hearth)." In the second half of the 6th century, some Baekje immigrant clans who claimed to be descendants of the Han royal family had a practice of placing miniature Karakamados in ancient tombs, and they became symbols of the hearth of the underworld, cooking rice for the dead, and the passing of fire between the living and the dead. This practice is also related to the myth of Izanagi and Izanami's "Yomotsuhegui (Hearth of the Underworld)."

壁や床に作り付けられた炊飯施設と区別される持ち運び可能な土製の炊飯具。耐火に適した土師器（はじき）の竈･釜･甑･鍋がセットをなす。源流は中国･朝鮮の炊飯制にあり，5世紀後半に伝わり，以後〈韓竈（からかまど）〉と呼ばれてきた。6世紀後半，漢の王室の後裔と称する一部の百済系渡来氏族の間では韓竈のミニチュアを古墳に収める慣行があり，冥界の竈，死者の炊飯，生者と死者の火継のシンボルとなっている。イザナキ･イザナミの〈黄泉之竈（よもつへぐい）〉の神話とも関連する慣行である。
