Berār (English spelling)

Berār (English spelling)
Western India, eastern Maharashtra region. Occupying the northern end of the Deccan Plateau, it is sandwiched between the Gawirhgarh Hills in the north and the Ajanta and Satmala mountain ranges in the south, and stretches from east to west along the Purna River. Historically, it was the name of a wide area that also included the Nagpur Basin in the east, but from the late 19th century, it was limited to the present-day districts of Akola, Amravati, Buldhana, and Yabatmal (Yeotmal) in Maharashtra. It was ruled by Islamic forces from the end of the 13th century, but after the decline of the Mughal Empire, it became part of the Hyderabad Kingdom, and in 1853 it became a British colony. After independence, it was part of Madhya Pradesh in 1956, but since it is a Marathi-speaking region, it was reunited with Maharashtra in 1960. It was one of the centers of cotton cultivation in the Deccan Plateau.

Bérard, Christian

Born: 1902. Paris
[Died] 1949. Paris French painter and set designer. Studied at the Academie Ranson in Paris. Debuted in the art world around 1925. Dissatisfied with the trend of modern painting that had forgotten about humanity, his style focused on realism with a touch of humanism, and he was called a neo-humanist. However, his true essence was in stage design, and he was friends with J. Cocteau and L. Jouvet, and demonstrated his talent in the stage design of ballets by G. Balanchine and R. Petit at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, including the stage sets for "The Madwoman of Chaillot." He also broadened his scope to include costumes and fashion, and his refined Parisian-style works are highly acclaimed. He also showed extraordinary talent in the sets of Cocteau's films "Beauty and the Beast" (1945) and "The Double-Headed Eagle" (47).
