Pierrot, who became the most representative comic character of the people through the performances at the regular market, was reborn in the 19th century as the leading role in a pantomime performed by JG Debureau at the Théâtre de Fenambure, which opened in 1816 in a corner of the Boulevard du Temple, commonly known as the Boulevard de la Crime in Paris. Debureau's pantomimes were also slapstick at first, but with the success of Le songe d'or, written for him by C. Nodier in 1828, he suddenly attracted the attention of intellectuals such as T. Gautier and JG Janin, and Pierrot became the object of adoration for literary scholars and other intellectuals.
