He was recognized by Geshu Han, the governor of Hexi, and became his staff member. He later became a Minister of Justice and a Zuo Sanqi Changshi. After turning 50, he decided to become a poet, and his literary reputation quickly grew. His border poems, such as "Yan Ge Xing," "Ji Men," and "Saixia Qu," based on his actual military experience, are famous for reflecting the border conditions of the time, and he is known as "Gao Cen" along with his friend and fellow border poet Cen Shen.
