…He is said to have been the father-in-law (or brother-in-law) of Bāṇa, famous as the court poet of King Harsha (reigned 606-648). He left behind the love lyric poem Mayūra-śataka and the religious lyric poem Surya-śataka. According to legend, the origin of the creation of his masterpiece Surya-śataka is that he became leprous after his daughter (or sister) had cursed him with leprosy in an angry manner because he had described the scene of her going to be with her lover and returning too explicitly in Mayūra-śataka. However, he was cured of his leprosy after writing this poem praising the sun god Surya. …

…戒日王ハルシャ(在位606‐648)の宮廷詩人として有名なバーナBāṇaの義父(あるいは義兄)といわれる。恋愛抒情詩《マユーラ･シャタカMayūra‐śataka》と宗教的抒情詩《スーリヤ･シャタカSūrya‐śataka》を残した。伝説によれば，代表作《スーリヤ･シャタカ》成立の由来は，彼が《マユーラ･シャタカ》の中で，自分の娘(あるいは妹)が愛人のもとに行き，戻るまでの情景をあまりに露骨に描写したため，怒った娘の呪詛によって癩病となったが，太陽神スーリヤを賛美したこの詩を書いて業病から快癒したという。…
