…He is said to have been the father-in-law (or brother-in-law) of Bāṇa, famous as the court poet of King Harsha (reigned 606-648). He left behind the love lyric poem Mayūra-śataka and the religious lyric poem Surya-śataka. According to legend, the origin of the creation of his masterpiece Surya-śataka is that he became leprous after his daughter (or sister) had cursed him with leprosy in an angry manner because he had described the scene of her going to be with her lover and returning too explicitly in Mayūra-śataka. However, he was cured of his leprosy after writing this poem praising the sun god Surya. …
