A former town in Amata County in the central-western part of Kyoto Prefecture. It occupies the mountainous area in the upper reaches of the Maki River, a tributary of the Yura River, and is served by the San'in Main Line. The town is primarily agricultural, producing chestnuts and grapes. The stone processing industry, which produces stone monuments and stone towers, is thriving. There is a ski resort in Yakunogahara. In January 2006, it was incorporated into Fukuchiyama City along with Oe Town, Kasa County, and Miwa Town, Amata County. 100.99 km2 . 4,918 people (2003).
