Wang Qi (English spelling)

Japanese: 王圻 - おうき（英語表記）Wang Qi

A Chinese scholar of the Ming Dynasty. Born in Shanghai. Style name Yuanhan. Appointed as a jinshi in 1565 (44th year of the Jiajing era). Appointed as a censor by the prefectural governor, he rebelled against the prime minister and was demoted. He eventually resigned as a councilor for Shaanxi government. He returned to his hometown, planted 10,000 plum trees, called himself Meihuayuan, and devoted himself to writing. His works include the 254-volume "Zou Wen Zhong Kao," which succeeded Ma Duanlin's "Wuen Tong Kao," and covers the four dynasties of Liao, Jin, Yuan, and Ming, as well as "Sancai Tuhui," "Eastern Wu Water Resources Study," "Posthumous Names Study," and "Haishi Hen."

中国，明の学者。上海の人。字，元翰。嘉靖 44 (1565) 年の進士。知県から御史に登用されたが，時の宰相に逆らって左遷され，陝西布政参議を最後に辞任。郷里に帰り梅1万本を植えて梅花源と称し，著述に専念した。著書には，元の馬端臨 (ばたんりん) の『文献通考』のあとを継いだ，遼，金，元，明の4朝にわたる『続文献通考』 254巻のほか，『三才図会』『東呉水利考』『諡法 (しほう) 通考』『稗史彙編 (はいしいへん) 』などがある。
