Kabuki dance. Nagauta. Original title: "Hanabusa Shujaku no Shishi." Lyricist unknown. Music composed by Kineya Yasaburo I, choreography by Ichikawa Kunigoro. First performed by Nakamura Tomijuro I at the Nakamuraza in Edo in March 1754 (4th year of the Horeki era). Of the "Ishibashimono" (stone bridge pieces) based on the Noh play "Ishibashi" (stone bridge), this is a classic piece created by female actors, and ranks alongside "Aioi Shishi" and "Makura Shishi." All pieces are performed in three steps. The dance, which had been discontinued, has been revived in recent years. The performers dress up as courtesans or princesses and perform a dance using gold butterfly decorations, a hand dance, a dance with a hand lion, a dance with a drum, and a Kudoki dance featuring cherry blossoms, after which the shite ends by performing a Kurui dance in a costume complete with a fan lion.
