Chelate Complex - Chelate Complex

A ligand that can bind to one metal atom simultaneously with two or more coordinating atoms is called a chelate, and a complex to which a chelate is coordinated is called a chelate complex. Chelate complexes are thermodynamically more stable than complexes bound to the corresponding monodentate ligand (chelate effect). They are used in chelate titrations, solvent extraction, etc.

一つの金属原子に二つ以上の配位原子で同時に結合することができる配位子をキレートといい，キレートが配位した錯体をキレート錯体という．キレート錯体は，対応する単座配位子で結合した錯体よりも熱力学的に安定である(キレート効果)．キレート滴定，溶媒抽出などに使われる．
