Fushiminomiya

Japanese: 伏見宮 - ふしみのみや
Fushiminomiya
One of the four Imperial Prince families in the Edo period. This Imperial family originated from Prince Yoshihito, the first son of Emperor Suko of the Northern Court during the Nanboku-cho period. Since Prince Hikohito, the first son of the third Prince Sadafusa, ascended to the throne as Emperor Gohanazono, the status of the Imperial family gradually increased. It flourished most at the end of the Edo period, surviving until 1945, with a history of over 500 years and 22 generations. Since the Meiji Restoration, all of the more than 10 Imperial families have descended from Fushiminomiya, except for the three direct families of Emperor Taisho.
