The name "governor" first came about in 1441 (Zhengtong 6) when Wang Ji, Minister of War, was appointed governor of military affairs when Luchuan (the border between Yunnan and Burma (present-day Myanmar)) was pacified. In 1469 (Chenghua 5), Han Yong was appointed governor and governor of Guangdong and Guangxi, and the position became a permanent one, after which he was deployed to various regions. The position was originally to control the military affairs of the region under his jurisdiction, but as he held multiple posts, he also came to oversee civil affairs, and there was almost no difference in authority between him and the governor, so the two were referred to together as governors. *Some of the terminology explanations that mention "Wang Ji" are listed below.
