The name "governor" first came about in 1441 (Zhengtong 6) when Wang Ji, Minister of War, was appointed governor of military affairs when Luchuan (the border between Yunnan and Burma (present-day Myanmar)) was pacified. In 1469 (Chenghua 5), Han Yong was appointed governor and governor of Guangdong and Guangxi, and the position became a permanent one, after which he was deployed to various regions.
