He dropped out of the École des Beaux-Arts (National School of Fine Arts) in Paris and joined his father's construction company with his two younger brothers. The apartment building he built on Rue François de la Française in Paris (1903) was designed by him and constructed by his own company, and is known as the first building to use reinforced concrete entirely. His technique was a large-scale practical application of the concrete construction method that had been developed by structural engineer François Hennebique (1842-1921) and architect Anatole de Baudot (1834-1915) from the perspectives of functionality and economy, and it set the course for new architectural trends in the 20th century. …
