[Eastern Orthodox Church and Eastern Churches]
The term "Eastern Orthodox Church" is a general term for the Eastern Chalcedonian churches after the final separation of the Eastern and Western churches in 1054, namely the Byzantine Church under the Patriarchate of Constantinople and some other churches (in the Balkans and Russia), the Georgian Church, and the Chalcedonian churches in Egypt, Syria, and Palestine under the Islamic Caliphate, and currently includes churches established in Europe, the Americas, and Asia as a result of the expansion of the various churches mentioned above. Therefore, the Chalcedonian churches were more or less united before 1054, and it is inappropriate and misleading to refer to the eastern churches as the Eastern Orthodox Church.

　〈東方正教会〉の名称は，1054年の東西両教会の最終的な分離後の東方のカルケドン派教会，すなわちコンスタンティノープル総主教管轄下のビザンティン教会と他の若干の教会(バルカン半島とロシア)，グルジア教会，イスラム･カリフ王朝支配下のエジプト，シリア，パレスティナのカルケドン派教会の総称であり，現在では上述のさまざまな教会がヨーロッパ，アメリカ大陸，アジアに拡大して設けられた教会をも含む。したがって1054年以前にはカルケドン派教会はまがりなりにも一つにまとまっていたわけで，そのうちの東方の教会を東方正教会とさかのぼって呼ぶのは適当ではないし，また誤解を生みやすい。…
