There is no pairing between specific males and females, and males mate with multiple females, and females also mate with multiple males, although the number of females is less than that of males. However, in most cases, the term is used to describe animals that live in organized groups, such as Japanese macaques, chimpanzees, and pygmy chimpanzees, and solitary mammals are not considered to be promiscuous even if unspecified males and females mate.
