…In the 1770s, a music school, an opera company, and a ballet company were established. After Holberg, Danish theatre was generally unsuccessful, with exceptions such as Ewald's successful play The Fishermen (premiered in 1780) and Johann Hermann Wessel's (1742-85) tragic parody Love Without Stockings (premiered in 1773). However, with the emergence of the tragic writer Ehrenslöyer in the early 19th century, a great change occurred and the theatre became more active. This was followed by Heiber's vaudeville plays and the civic romance plays of Thomas Overskou (1798-1873) and others. …
