Ishikushiro

Japanese:
Ishikushiro

It means a stone bracelet. However, the term ishi-kushiro is generally used to refer to bracelets made in Japan's Kofun period by using a potter's wheel to carve stones such as jasper or green tuff into a perfect circle. These are thought to be replicas of shell bracelets made from conch shells, and like the kuwagataishi and sharinseki stones, they are thought to have been distributed by the Kinai government to local chiefs. A considerable number of them have been excavated, having been discovered over a wide area from northern Kyushu to the Tohoku region, and they do not appear to be considered treasures. Many of them have fine radial lines carved into one side of the ring, but there is a great variety in the patterns. They are thought to be relics from the 4th century to the first half of the 5th century.
