Hodgson - Ralph Hodgson

British poet. Born in Darlington in the northeast of England. One of the so-called Georgian poets, he combines simple verse with detailed descriptions of nature and a heartfelt philosophy of life. He produced only three poetry collections: "The Last Kurodori" (1907), "Poetry" (1917), and "Hibari" (1959), published in his later years. He taught at Tohoku Imperial University from 1924 (Taisho 13) to 1938 (Showa 13), after which he lived in the countryside of Ohio in the United States.

イギリスの詩人。イングランド北東部ダーリントンに生まれる。いわゆるジョージ王朝詩人の一人で、平明な詩形に、細やかな自然描写としみじみとした人生哲学を盛り込む。寡作で、『最後のくろどり』（1907）、『詩編』（1917）のほか、晩年の『ひばり』（1959）の3詩集を数えるにすぎない。1924年（大正13）から38年（昭和13）まで東北帝国大学で教鞭(きょうべん)をとり、その後アメリカのオハイオ州の片田舎(いなか)で暮らした。
