Que-chang; Ch`üeh-ch`ang
An office located on the border in the Song dynasty of China to manage trade with the northern and western tribes. Also called the Yanmu or Yanshi. It was first established in the 2nd year of the Taiping Xingguo era (977) to trade with the Khitan, and in the 4th year of the Jingde era (1007) it was established between the Khitan and the Western Xia, and in the 12th year of the Shaoxing era (1142) it was established on the border with the Jin dynasty. Trade goods brought at the Yanmu office included copper coins, tea, silk, incense, lacquerware, and pottery from the Song dynasty, horses, sheep, pearls, and dung from the Khitan and Jin dynasties, and sheep, horses, cattle, and jade from the Western Xia.
