King of the House of Wessex, England (reigned 978-1016). He succeeded his brother Edward after his assassination. He was often plagued by Danish invasions, and was hated for imposing heavy taxes to pay the huge indemnity. He was nicknamed the "Indecisive King" and the "Indecisive King." In 1013, he fled to Normandy, the birthplace of his queen, after an invasion by the Danish king Sweyn I, and returned the following year, but died shortly thereafter.

イングランド，ウェセックス王家の王（在位978年−1016年）。兄エドワードが暗殺されたあとを受けて即位。しばしばデーン人の侵入に悩まされ，多額の賠償金の支払いのために重税を課してうとまれた。〈怠慢王〉〈不決断王〉のあだ名がある。1013年デンマーク王スベン１世の侵略をうけて王妃の出身地ノルマンディーに逃亡し，翌年帰国したがまもなく死去。
