An atoll in the Pacific Ocean, located slightly north of the equator and at 154°30' east longitude. It belongs to the Federated States of Micronesia. It is home to about 400 people on a land area of about 1.12 km2 consisting of 33 small islands. Although it is geographically part of Micronesia, like the neighboring island of Nukuoro, it is academically recognized as one of the "Polynesian outliers" formed when Polynesians, who had migrated mainly eastward through the South Pacific, re-migrated westward in the 1st millennium AD.
