Sepher Yetzirah

Japanese: セーフェル･イェツィーラー（英語表記）Sepher Yetzirah

This is a fundamental Kabbalah scripture, on par with the Zohar. The title means "The Book of Formation." It is said to have been directly transmitted to Abraham by an angel, but the current text is believed to have been created in the 3rd to 6th centuries. This book defines the nature and attributes of the 10 Sephiroth that make up the Tree of Life and the 22 paths (corresponding to the Hebrew alphabet) that connect them. It also reveals the 32 secret wisdoms that God used when creating the universe, which led to it being believed to be a textbook for the creation of golems in later generations.

《ゾーハル》と並ぶカバラの根本経典。書名は〈形成の書〉の意。アブラハムが天使から直接伝授されたとされているが，現行テキストの成立は3～6世紀と考えられる。本書は生命の樹を構成する10のセフィロトとその相互を結ぶ22の小径(ヘブライ語のアルファベットに対応)の本質と属性とを規定する。そして〈神〉が宇宙を創造するときに用いた32の秘密の知恵を明らかにしており，このことから後世ゴーレム創造の教本とも信じられた。
