1711‐78 German music critic. He entered the University of Leipzig in 1731 to study theology and philosophy. It is said that he studied composition under JS Bach while he was there. He was active in many areas, including receiving a doctorate in medicine from the University of Erfurt, serving as a court advisor in Warsaw and being ranked as a Polish nobleman, but his most notable achievements today are the founding of the music magazine Neu eröffnete musikalische Bibliothek in 1736, which was rare at the time, and the founding of the Musicological Society in 1738, whose members included Bach and Handel.
