A cirque on the western slope (French side) of Marbore Peak (3,248m), a mountain ridge in the central Pyrenees that forms the border between France and Spain. The uppermost reaches of the Ghabe de Pau River spill out of the cirque into a 421m waterfall (the highest in France and the second highest in Europe). At the bottom of the ice-carved U-shaped valley is the village of Gavarnie (1,363m), and its magnificent scenery makes it one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Pyrenees.
