...Eisenstein, Lang, Renoir, Dreyer, Hitchcock and other great directors from various countries who would go on to create the first golden age of cinema all emphasized that they had learned from Griffith and made it their lifelong dream to make films in "Griffith's country," that is, to make "American films." Meanwhile, T.H. Ince (1882-1924), one of the three great directors of early American cinema alongside Griffith and M. Sennett, created a studio system centered around the producer. This became the basis of the Hollywood film production system, and all studios around the world, including Cinecittà in Italy, which was built by Mussolini, and Mosfilm in the Soviet Union, adopted this system.

...It was an "action comic" based on a fantastic idea, with no logical continuity and ending with a one-off action, and embodied the surreal fantasy that only film could create. American films led the world in the wake of World War I, but D.W. Griffith's "The Birth of a Nation" (1915) and "Intolerance" (1916) and Thomas H. Ince's (1882-1924) "Civilization" (1916) perfected cinematic techniques such as "close-ups" and "cut-backs," bringing together the expressive techniques of "silent films." It was the first step from photographic "reproduction" to artistic "creation."...

… In the United States, before Hollywood, which would later become the “movie capital,” was developed by filmmakers, there was a history of film production in Los Angeles by filmmakers who had escaped the oppression of the Motion Picture Patents Company, a film trust, in New York and Chicago, which were the production centers. WN Seelig built the first Hollywood studio in 1909. Several studios were subsequently built, but the most noteworthy of these was the Innsville Studios, which was built in 1912 by TH Ince (1882-1924), who, along with DW Griffith, made his mark on the early days of American film. Ince employed the entire “Wild West Show” at this studio, producing westerns using real cowboys, Indians, and buffalo, but at the same time he adopted a detailed shooting script and promoted the “division of labor” by dividing the studio into 10 departments according to function. …

…　アメリカでは，のちに〈映画の都〉となるハリウッドが映画人の手で開拓されるまえに，製作の中心であったニューヨークやシカゴにおける〈モーション･ピクチャー･パテンツ･カンパニー〉という映画トラストの圧迫から逃れた映画人たちによるロサンゼルスでの製作の歴史があるが，W.N.シーリグが1909年にハリウッド最初の撮影所をつくった。続いていくつかの撮影所がつくられたが，その中でとくに注目に値するのは，D.W.グリフィスと並んでアメリカ映画の草創期に足跡を残しているT.H.インス(1882‐1924)が，12年に2万エーカーの土地を手に入れてつくったインスビル撮影所である。インスは，この撮影所に〈ワイルド･ウェスト･ショー〉をまるごと雇用し，ほんもののカウボーイ，インディアン，バッファローを使って西部劇を製作したが，同時に詳細緻密（ちみつ）な撮影台本shooting scriptを採用し，撮影所を機能別に10部門に分けて〈分業化〉を進めた。…
