An official appointed by the Edo Shogunate to lead the Eta in the 12 provinces of the Kanto region (Sagami, Musashi, Awa, Kazusa, Shimousa, Hitachi, Kozuke, Shimotsuke), Kai, Izu, Mutsu, and Suruga. Danzaemon of Asakusa was the official, and after the Choshu Expedition he and his subordinates were released. Some feudal domains also established them.
