...A Chinese bowed string instrument. Erhu means a two-stringed huqin. In a broad sense, it includes the Jing erhu used to accompany Peking Opera, the gao hu (high-pitched erhu, also known as Yuehu), zhong hu, and low hu of Cantonese music. It has a circular, hexagonal, or octagonal body about 9 to 10 cm in diameter made of rosewood or ebony, with a long neck inserted into it, snakeskin stretched over it, and two strings made of silk or metal, the inner string tuned to a fifth of D and the outer string tuned to a fifth of A.
