Lake Poets

The name given to the early 19th century British Romantic poets Wordsworth, Coleridge and Southey. They lived in the scenic Lake District, an area of ​​Cumbria in northwest England blessed with lakes and mountains, and indulged in poetry in a friendly relationship. The central figure was Wordsworth, who lived around Lake Grasmere and continued to sing of the nature of the area throughout his life, and with his co-authored work with Coleridge, "Lyric Songs" (1798), he played a part in the Romantic revival that occurred throughout Europe. All three poets had different styles, so it is difficult to call them the same school of poets.

イギリス19世紀初頭のロマン派詩人、ワーズワース、コールリッジ、サウジーに与えられた名称。イングランドの北西部カンブリアの湖水と山に恵まれた風光明媚(めいび)な地、いわゆる湖水地方に住み、友情に結ばれて詩作にふけった。中心的存在は、グラスミア湖周辺に住み、生涯この地の自然を歌い続けたワーズワースであり、コールリッジとの共著『叙情歌謡集』（1798）で、ヨーロッパ一円におこったロマン派復興運動の一翼を担った。3人ともそれぞれ詩風は違い、詩の一派とはいいがたい。
