Joruri Gidayubushi (a type of Japanese recital). Sewamono (domestic drama). Three volumes. Written by Chikamatsu Monzaemon. First performed at the Takemotoza Theater in Osaka in the spring of 1715 (Shotoku 5). This dramatization was done to mark the 33rd anniversary of the deaths of the wife of a Kyoto sutra master, Osan, and her assistant Mohee, who had an adulterous relationship with the help of the maid Otama, and all three were executed in 1683 (Tenwa 3). Compared to Ihara Saikaku's "Five Amorous Women" and other poems, which use the same subject as a focus on O-San's lust, this work is distinctive in that it presents the motive for the adultery as an accidental mistake resulting from a case of mistaken identity caused by O-San's swapping bedrooms with O-Tama in order to punish her husband Ishun for his wicked love for the maid, O-Tama, and in that it vividly depicts the tragedy that the incident brings to those around him, including O-San's parents and O-Tama's uncle Akamatsu Bairyu. It is considered one of Chikamatsu's three great adultery stories, along with "Horikawa Namino Tsuzumi" and "Gonzakasane Katabira," but during the Edo period, "Koi Hakke Hashira Goyomi," which was revised in 1740 (Genbun 5), was the one that was most often performed.

In modern times, many new interpretations of the story have been created, and after World War II, Kawaguchi Shotaro's "Osan Mohei" (later renamed "The Tale of Chikamatsu") was well received and was made into a film (1954) directed by Mizoguchi Kenji.

浄瑠璃義太夫節(じょうるりぎだゆうぶし)。世話物。三巻。近松門左衛門作。1715年（正徳5）春ごろ大坂・竹本座初演。京都の大経師の妻おさんと手代茂兵衛(もへえ)が下女お玉の仲介で密通し、1683年（天和3）に3人とも処刑された事件を、その三十三回忌に当て込んで脚色。同題材をおさんの愛欲本位に扱った井原西鶴(さいかく)の『好色五人女』や歌祭文(うたざいもん)などに比べ、姦通(かんつう)の動機を、おさんが夫意俊(いしゅん)の下女お玉への邪恋を懲らしめるため、お玉と寝所を取り替えたことによる、暗(くら)まぎれの人違いでおきた偶然の過ちとし、事件がおさんの両親、お玉の伯父赤松梅竜(ばいりゅう)など、周囲に及ぼす悲劇を克明に描いた点に特色がある。『堀川波鼓(ほりかわなみのつづみ)』や『鑓(やり)の権三重帷子(ごんざかさねかたびら)』とともに近松の三大姦通物とされるが、江戸時代には1740年（元文5）に改作された『恋八卦柱暦(こいはっけはしらごよみ)』がもっぱら上演されてきた。

　近代以降は新解釈脚本も多くつくられ、第二次世界大戦後は、川口松太郎作『おさん茂兵衛』（のち『近松物語』と改題）が好評を受け、これは溝口健二監督で映画化（1954）もされた。
