Kanokogi-so

Japanese:
Kanokogi-so

A manor located in Akita County, Higo Province. Its territory covers the northern part of Kumamoto City and part of Goshi City. It began in 1086 (Otoku 3) when Takakata, the grandson of Shami Jumyo, the lord of Konpon, donated his estate to Fujiwara Sanetsune, the second Dazai. In 1139 (Hōen 5), it was given the title of Rikken Shogo. The title was passed down to the Crown Prince's Minister Fujiwara Kinzane and his son-in-law, Dainagon Fujiwara Tsunezane, but in the generation of his son Takamichi, the Kokushi (provincial governor) often interfered with the title, so first, they donated 200 koku of the 400 koku annual tax to Princess Koyoin to seek protection, and the title was later passed down to Shokotokuin, the temple of Koyoin's family, and then to Ninnaji, as the main family. Then, in 1171 (Joan 1), the title was re-established by Emperor Goshirakawa through the daughter of Taira no Kiyomori, Kenshunmon'in. After that, it was the subject of several disputes, including with the Takakata lineage that had inherited the position of land steward, but in the Kamakura period, it seems that the powerful noble Horikawa Genji clan, who inherited the rights of the lineage of Kenshunmon'in and Goshirakawa, held the actual authority over the manor. During the Kamakura period, it was divided into Higashi and Nishi Sho, with smaller units such as myo and mura within it, and several land stewards and vassals, including the Takuma clan, a branch of the Otomo clan, were entrenched there. It is unclear what the actual situation was as a manor after the mid-15th century.
