A deciduous shrub or small tree of the Caprifoliaceae family (APG classification: Viburnum family). It grows 2-4 meters tall. The leaves are hairy and 5-12 cm long. In May and June, it produces corymbs 5-9 cm in diameter that open with many small flowers. The flowers on the edge of the inflorescence are decorative and have large white corollas. The drupes are red at first, then black, and have deep grooves in the core. The name means "Temaribana that grows in the bush." It is commonly found in mountain valleys, distributed from Honshu to Kyushu, Taiwan, and China. A less hairy variety, Kenashiyabudemari, is found in the Tohoku and Hokuriku regions. The basic species, Oodemari (also called Temaribana), has an inflorescence in which the entire flower is decorative.
