Zircon

Zr(SiO ₄ ). Also called hyacinthite. Nesosilicate. Found as an accessory mineral in plutonic and metamorphic rocks. Tetragonal crystal system, space group I 4/ amd . Lattice constants a ₀ = 0.660, c ₀ = 0.598 nm. {110} incomplete cleavage. Hardness 7.5. Density 4.6-4.7 g cm ^-3 . Reddish brown to yellow. Becomes colorless and transparent when ignited in a reducing environment. Positive uniaxiality. ω 1.923-1.960, ε 1.968-2.015, ε-ω 0.042-0.065. When part of the Zr is replaced by U or Th, it is often metamictized. Natural zircon always contains a certain amount of Hf, and some zircons with Hf/Zr ratios of 0.6 have been found. It can be artificially obtained by hydrothermal synthesis of _ZrO2 and _SiO2 at temperatures ranging from 150 to 700°C.

Zr(SiO₄)．ヒヤシンス鉱ともいう．ネソケイ酸塩．深成岩，変成岩中に副成分鉱物として含まれる．正方晶系，空間群 I4/amd．格子定数 a₀ ＝ 0.660，c₀ ＝ 0.598 nm．へき開{110}不完全．硬度7.5．密度4.6～4.7 g cm^－3．赤褐色～黄色．還元環境で強熱すると無色透明になる．一軸性正．ω 1.923～1.960，ε 1.968～2.015，ε-ω 0.042～0.065．Zrの一部がU，Thで置換されているとメタミクト化している場合が多い．また，天然のジルコンはつねにHfをある程度含んでおり，Hf/Zrが0.6のものも見いだされている．人工的にはZrO₂とSiO₂を150～700 ℃ の範囲で水熱合成して得られる．
